One by one the good old people are leaving us to join the great majority. Scarcely an issue of this journal passes but an announcement appears of the demise of some friend or old acquaintance. On Wednesday morning at five o’clock Mr Joshua Norbury passed away at his son Walter’s residence at the ripe age of 81 years. The deceased was a native of Lancashire, England and had been a resident of Alexandra for over 38 years and a colonist of over 43 years. The late Mr Norbury was in business at Wood’s Point in the early days and afterwards settled at Alexandra and built the Belle Vue Hotel, and which he carried successfully for sometime afterwards engaging in farming pursuits. The deceased was well known and respected by everyone and the same Canadaada be said of the family, three of whom are residents on out town. The funeral took place yesterday, the Rev TB Swift officiating at the grave. Mr A Kidd had charge of the burial arrangements. |
