Nelson Freeman sailed from London to Sydney on the Augusta Jessie, a barque of 380 tons. The Augusta Jessie departed from London on 5 June 1837, calling at Portsmouth on 15 June 1837 and the Cape, before arriving at Sydney on Wednesday 11 October 1837. The Augusta Jessie carried 333 emigrants of which 227 (63 men, 62 women and 102 children) were "bounty" passengers. Nelson was one of these. The ship's master was Henry Edenborough, and its surgeon Thomas Galloway RN. No emmigration record of Rachel or their children had been located. The passenger records for the Augusta Jessie are incomplete. However, the record for Nelson suggsests that he was accompanied by three children. It seems inconceivable that the children would travel without their mother.
